Consulting Services

System Integration:
We help you balance your Electric Vehicle's propulsion and battery charging systems to meet your application requirements and cost constraints. The most advantageous battery-mass fraction is chosen to meet your requirements while considering performance and stability. A compromise is found between your need for system efficiency and your desire for performance and drivability. The battery and battery charger is chosen based upon the duty cycle of the vehicle. Again, an optimum solution is recommended which gives the best battery cycle life while maintaining operational performance and range.

Motor/Controller Integration:
We help you find the most suitable motor/controller system you need. Factors considered are:
a) Acceleration requirements
b) Maximum speed requirements
c) Fixed or multiple gearing
d) Continuous power required
e) Power density rating of batteries
f) Type of application/control characteristics
g) Need for speed cutback options
h) Performance benefit of regenerative braking
i) Drivability benefit of regenerative braking
j) Hydraulic brakes design capacity

Systems include:
Series Motor/Controller
Shunt Motor/Separately Excited Controller
Permanent Magnet Motor/Controller
A.C. Motor/Inverter

Battery Charging System:
We help you find the most suitable battery charging system you need. Factors considered are:
a) Battery Type, e.g. flooded vs. VRLA
b) Battery Capacity in Ampere Hours
c) Type of Application
d) Type of AC power available: 110/208/240 VAC
e) Stability of the input line voltage
f) Budget constraints
g) Are batteries in open or ventilated space

Systems include:
1) Simple ferro-resonant chargers
2) High Frequency switched mode chargers
3) Series string charging
4) Individual modular charging

Battery Management System:
We help you determine if you need a Battery Management System. It is typically required if you use long strings of VRLA batteries. Factors considered are:
a) VRLA battery make (e.g. Optima, Hawker, GNB)
b) Battery Capacity in Ampere Hours
c) Type of Application
d) Typical idle periods of application vehicle
e) User serviceability of the system
f) Budget constraints
g) Length of series battery string

Systems include:
1) Microprocessor-based monitoring and equalizing system
2) Individual modular charging
3) Parallel connection to another type of battery

Battery Pack Analysis:
We help you determine the condition of your batteries. Testing includes:
a) Battery capacity in AH at constant current discharge
b) Battery internal resistance
c) Identification of bad cells or modules
d) Recommendation of charge profile adjustment to accommodate aging batteries
e) Recommendations to increase usable capacity
f) Recommendation to replace battery pack if needed

Troubleshooting:
We help you troubleshoot your Electric Vehicle's propulsion and battery charging systems to find the fault that may be causing the problem. Testing includes:
a) Verifying the correct battery charging profile
b) Eliminating faulty or redundant circuits
c) Identifying intermittent faults
d) Tracing ground faults in the battery, traction and auxiliary circuits
e) Recommendation to upgrade to better components or repair existing components, including a cost comparison
